2026 Highlights

New Standing Order: The procedural rules of the Legislative Assembly were updated to allow a First Nations representative to address the House in conjunction with treaty-related legislation—first used in April 2026 by representatives from K’ómoks First Nation and Kitselas First Nation.

Indigenous artwork and representation: Eight contemporary Indigenous artworks have been installed throughout the Parliament Buildings. In addition, work is underway to identify historic Indigenous artwork within the Hemlock Room panels and, where possible, connect with surviving artists to ensure recognition and understanding of these works.

Commemorative Garden: Design work and engagement with Survivors and Indigenous partners are ongoing. The garden will honour Residential School Survivors and the children who lost to their families and communities.
