Looking for a new and exciting way to connect kids with Parliament? Sign up for The Parliamentary Play and Tour for Schools, an interactive experience that includes a guided tour of the parliament buildings and a historical play on the grounds.
Teachers have two programs to choose from:
- Who's in Charge? (recommended for Grade K-6)
This program follows a “parliament” of owls, looking for a bird’s eye view of British Columbia’s system of government. The play explores key roles at the Legislative Assembly and examines their impact on daily life. Then, the group will journey inside for a guided tour focusing on participation and representation at the Parliament Buildings. This program is designed to complement the Grade 5 and 6 Social Studies curriculum but is fun for all ages.
- The Story of Here (recommended for Grade 7-12)
This program explores how the Parliamentary Precinct been shaped by Indigenous history, colonialism, democracy, and the suffrage movement. Audiences learn about continuity and change at the Parliament Buildings over time from notorious architect Francis Rattenbury and intrepid librarian Alma Russell. Then, the group ventures inside to discuss what the Legislative Assembly means to British Columbians today. This program is designed to complement the Grade 9 and 10 Social Studies curriculum but is fun for all ages.
