School Tours and Programs

Guided tours provide a fun and informative introduction to the role of the Legislative Assembly, the history of the Parliament Buildings, and the provincial level of government.

School Tour Information

Tour Length

Allow for up to 1 hour for the guided tour.

Allow for up to 1.5 hours if you will also be observing debates as part of your visit.

  • Due to the number of events in the building, some of the rooms that are normally included on the guided tour will be closed if you visit on a day when the Legislative Assembly is meeting. The tour will be shortened accordingly.

Group Size

The maximum size for each tour is 40 people (including all students and accompanying adults). Groups with more than 40 people will need to book multiple tours.

As space in the public area of the Parliament Buildings is limited, we cannot offer more than one tour at a time.

Arrival

Please arrive at the school entrance at the back of the Parliament Buildings 10 minutes before the time of your tour.

If possible, plan to use washrooms prior to your arrival as the public washrooms in the Parliament Buildings are not well suited to large groups. If it is not possible, please let your guide know that you would like a washroom break included as part of the tour.

Observing Debates

Interested school groups are allocated 20 minutes in the Public Gallery following their tour. Make sure you book using the 'Tour with Gallery' option if you wish to observe debates.

  • Please consult the Parliamentary Calendar to find out when the Legislative Assembly is meeting. The calendar for the following year is normally released in December.

  • As the MLAs are responsible for many important issues, please be aware that sensitive topics may be discussed while your group is in the Gallery.

  • Question Period accounts for only 30 minutes of the daily 7-8 hour meeting schedule. Most groups who visit will not see Question Period, but will see the MLAs discussing proposed legislation or reviewing finances.

Members of the Legislative Assembly

We will notify your school’s MLA of your visit and invite them to meet with your class.

Please note that MLAs have busy schedules so we cannot guarantee their availability. Consider inviting the MLA to visit your classroom before or after your visit.
